I have here on the shelf a ass kickin' Canon ZR45-MC digital video camera\digital camera and a computer scattered around the room that I specially built to do video ....... with a P4 with a gig of RDRAM and a super-duper ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon TV video card .... and add to that a new DVD burner still in the box. Been fittling with it on and off for a few days. Before lightning ran in on the machine I did bunches of home video and burned it to CD-Rs in SVCD so it can play on some DVD players (dvdhelp.com to see if yours will play them)

Got plenty of practice cutting, editting, and re-formatting video. For the last couple of years I have been capping (capturing) TV shows and sharing them on the net. Even capped the 24-7 live net feeds of the CBS Big Brother show for over 8 hours a day and shared them on the net with people that didn't sub to the service.

I can put it in several formats. Burn it to CD-Rs (Wal-Mart 0.30 ea) and mail them. Shrink the file sizes and lose a little quality and put it on a net server, but you would need a high speed connection. Unless, for dial-up connections, you used a low grade Windows Media codec and I don't think anyone would be happy with it.

So basically, It will take me about a day to get the machine together, unless I missed something from the lightning strike. Then its just when you want to do it. It will take three people, two cockers and a camera man.

It takes a lot of computer horsepower to do digital video, and a few hours to process it, to get it right. The camera is ready, just needs about an hour to charge up. I can also transfer it to a VHS tape if you got the RCA plugs on the back or front of a VCR if you want. Then take it home a do the digital here. Most of the time if your gonna send it out, you'll want to cut some parts out of it. It takes a little while, but I can even add the scrambled faces stuff, if you don't want your mug in the video. Or you could wear towel on your face n' head like a anarchist \ terrorist.

i got a digital video two digital cameras and stodio 7 editer.
been doing it about 2 1/2 years i burn family things and reuniouns football games of the family boys.
i havent tryed to transfer it to vhs or dvd im wanting a dvd burner
that will burn the knid every dvd player will play.
right now i burn to cd-r in mpeg 1 kinda down on quality but its practice.sure would like any help you could give.

I like MPG 1 myself, universal codec, very easy to work with and will edit, convert up or down easily. Best way to up the quality on it is to up the bitrate of the source, or add filters to your processing.

The best help I can think of is to give you some links to some great forums, and learn how to use usenet \ newsgroups for you video software needs.

I hope you have at least a P4 with 500 mb of ram and a good video card in your machine, cause you'll need it or a ton of patience. Best and easiest way to convert to VHS is with a TV-out video card, and check the dvdrhelp.com user ratings before you buy a DVD burner, or for that matter, anything you buy related to digital imaging. I have a Pioneer Pioneer DVR-A06/106D I haven't installed yet, and use a ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500 128 TV \ Video card. Lightning hit that machine a while back and I've got it scattered across the floor waiting to go back together.

Also if you do any video you want to share with net-friends and have a cable or DSL net connection. Or basically files that people with computers can watch ....... Microsoft has a wealth of easy to use and understand programs and support packages, and best of all its free. Movie Maker 2 and the like.

Of all the video codecs, I'd say AVI is the best to learn on. Make a short video with different light settings, like going in and out of the house about 5 min long then use it to learn editting and see how light effects codec settings.

These should get you going. I use TMPEGEnc for MPG, and Virtuadub for avi. And lots of others for specific needs.

Finally, I couldn't live without usenet \ newsgroup binaries, I'd be software poor. Basically, learn how to use them and never buy software, games, and stuff again.

Its not really hard, the termiology is overwhelming at first, and getting all your hardware and software to work together can be a pain. A good non-commercial forum for your video card is a help too.

kenny, i am still having a few problems with the auction. while in the auction part, i can't post a question in the "post a question for the seller". i can't respond to a questions in there either. while in the auction part, it want let me click on a person's name and send them a e-mail or pm. when i try this, i can put a message in, but when i clcik send, it goes to a blank screen and says "done". i can do this from the gallery or bulletin board part. i also can post fowl on the auction with no problems. thanks for your help.

This is just a shot in the dark, and I am not familiar with this forums set up, but do you have Java installed and enabled? Or have you tried to go to the chat area and get it to work? Microsoft and Java have had a long 'thing' and its not automatically installed anymore.

ive been doing it for awhile and the light makes all the differance.
im not to up to speed with the hardware though .i usaully just burn about 25 minetes on to a cd-r and its not to bad.
have gooton a ton of exsperiace with editing though.

Haven't used the editting software you mentioned. I've done most of mine capping TV shows and movies. There is a nice market for full season stuff on e-bay. Nice to have a home-made Sopranos and Carnivale library. The video card works the same as a TiVO unit.

If you'll notice the amount of light and motion makes a huge difference in file size. If you use Virtuadub to convert from MPEG1 to divx thats were it will make a difference. You can also get masking software to blur faces in a vid. Comes in handy at times.

If possible thou I'd switch to MPEG2. Using firewire you can upload straight dv video to the machine and convert to MPEG2. You get into DVD player not being able to play it sometimes. THats always a pain. Some do well with MPG1 and others MPG2.

If you haven't used other codecs like avi, its nice. You can cram a couple of hours onto one CDR. Microsofts latest WinMedia codecs can put lots of hours on a CD, and they can get the size down so you can share them with friends over a 56K connection.

I have a circle of friends that share all kinds of video. From capturing net-casts that are 'suppose' to be protected, street racing thru the Ft. Worth TX, to uneditted news correspondants video that never make the news feeds. If you've ever seen the videos 'Bumfights' or 'Bangbus." you get the idea.

What kind of connection do you have? When I get this rattle box back together I'll send you some stuff, show you a few different codecs, and how web-serve streaming video from your PC to anyone with a PC. Or set-up an FTP server so you can do some serious file exchange.
